Inside Burma

Yangon, November 8 -- Some of the political parties including National
Democratic Force Party and Democratic Party ( Myanmar ) are now
urgently discussing among themselves to lodge a joint complaint with
the Union Election Commission regarding what they called “gross
malpractices and unjust methods” committed by the military
government’s party namely the Union Solidarity and Development Party (
USDP ) to win the elections held yesterday throughout the country.

This was revealed by Chairman of Democratic Party ( Myanmar ) U Thu
Wai to @@ in an exclusive this afternoon.

Thu Wai’s Democratic Party ( Myanmar ), which is considered by
political observers as an independent party, fielded 47 candidates in
the general elections held yesterday.

According to Thu Wai, his party won only three seats – one each in
Yangon, Pago and Mandalay region.

Thu Wai, who contested for Pyithu Hluttaw ( House of Representatives
) from Minglar Taung Nyunt constituency in the center of Yangon
against U Aung Kyi ( current Minister for Labour ) said he was
defeated by Aung Kyi merely because of the votes, which bear no
signature of officers-in-charge of the voting stations.

“Several hundreds of such votes were found to be cast by workers of
factories and those from nearby Yangon City Development Committee and
Railway Department. As the counting began it was found that these
votes did not bear the signature of officers-in-charge of voting
stations concerned as required by Election Law,” Thu Wai charged.

“As such, though my standing was good as the vote started to be
counted, it suddenly changed by huge number of such votes, which bear
no signatures of officers-in-charge of the voting stations. I don’t
know how and in what way these votes got into ballot boxes,” said Thu
Wai angrily.
