Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) calls for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s Unconditional Release

12 November 2010

“Here is what I want most for my people: I want the security of genuine freedom and the freedom of genuine security. I would like to see the crippling fetters of fear removed, that the people of Burma may be able to hold their heads high as free human beings. I would like to see them striving in unity and joy to build a safer, happier society for us all”. (Daw Aung San Suu Kyi)

Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) calls for the Burmese junta to release people’s leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi unconditionally.

Burma’s junta knows very well that all the justice loving people are fully supporting Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and so they used the dirty tricks in order to silence Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by repeatedly extended her detention.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s detention expired for continuous five years and regime extended another year even though under 1975 Emergency Law Section 10(b) does not allow anyone to detain more than five consecutive years. The junta was violating its own law by extending her detention period in 2008. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi completed six years of continuous detention on 27 May 2009. Since junta did not want to release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi when her 6 years detention was about to complete, junta plotted the ploy to imprison her.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi spent 15 of last 22 years under house arrest. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is not only the icon of the Burmese people's struggle for freedom but also the idol of non-violent movement in the whole world at large. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi gives us hope, confidence and faith in our aspiration for democracy.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s house arrest term will be expiry on 13 November 2010 and she must be released accordingly.

There will be protest to demand Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s release in front of the Burma’s junta embassy in London, UK on 12 November 2010 from 12:00-13:00 pm and you are cordially invited to join with us.
