အရွင္ဆႏၵာဓိက (ခ) ကိုညီညီစံကို စစ္ေၾကာေရးစခန္းတြင္ ႐ိုက္ႏွက္ထားသည့္

႐ံုးထုတ္သည့္ေန႔က မိသားစုဝင္မ်ားကို အရွင္ဆႏၵာဓိက က ေျပာသည္။

အာဏာပိုင္မ်ားက စစ္ေၾကာေရးစခန္းတြင္ ႐ိုက္ႏွက္ကာ ဓါတ္ဆီေလာင္း
မီး႐ိႈ႕ဆႏၵျပရန္ ႀကံစည္ေၾကာင္း အတင္းၾကပ္ ထြက္ဆိုခိုင္းေၾကာင္း ၎က
ဆက္ေျပာသည္။
အရွင္ဆႏၵာဓိကကို အာဏာပိုင္မ်ားက ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္ အမိန္႔ခ်မွတ္ခံရသည့္
ယခုလ (၁၁) ရက္ေန႔က အင္းစိန္ေထာင္ေရွ႕ သြားေရာက္ၾကားနာၿပီး အျပန္တြင္
ဖမ္းဆီးခဲ့ျခင္းျဖစ္သည္။

ဒကာမေတြကို ႏႈတ္ဆက္ၿပီးေတာ့ ျပန္တဲ့အခ်ိန္မွာ ကားအျဖဴေလးနဲ႔ လူသံုးေယာက္က
ဦးဇင္းကို အေအးကပ္ခ်င္လို႔ဆိုေတာ့ ဦးဇင္းကလည္း ငါဘုန္းေပးတာ
ျပည့္စံုၿပီတဲ့၊ မလိုေတာ့ပါဘူးဆိုၿပီး ေျပာတာကို ဦးဇင္းကို
ေျပာစရာ႐ွိလို႔ပါတဲ့၊ ေမးစရာေလး႐ွိလို႔ပါဆိုၿပီး ေခၚသြားတာ” ဟု

မည္သို႔ဆိုေစ ထိုမွတ္စုစာအုပ္အေဟာင္းမၽားထဲမွလည္းေကာင္း၊ လက္ရွိမွတ္စုစာအုပ္မၽားထဲမွလည္းေကာင္း ေကာင္းႏိုးရာရာေလးမၽားကို ကြၽန္ေတာ့မိတ္ေဆြမၽားႏွင့္ မွ်ေဝလိုစိတ္ကြၽန္ေတာ့တြင္ရွိပါသည္။ ေကာင္းေသာအရာမၽားကို မွ်ေဝႁခင္းသည္ မိမိကိုယ္တိုင္အတြက္ေသာ္လည္းေကာင္း၊ အမၽားအတြက္ေသာ္လည္းေကာင္း ပို၍ေကာင္းမြန္ေစသည္ဟု ကြၽန္ေတာ္ ရိုးသားစြာယံုႂကည္ႁဖစ္ပါသည္။ ထို႔အႁပင္ ကြၽန္ေတာ္ကိုယ္တိုင္လည္း ထိုမွတ္စုေကာင္းေလးမၽားကိုပို၍ ဖတ္ႁဖစ္မွတ္ႁဖစ္သြားသည္မဟုတ္ပါလား။

ရိုးသားဘို႔က သတၲိရွိဘို႔လိုပါတယ္လို႔ ဆိုရင္ မရိုးသားသူမၽားက သတၲိေႂကာင္သူမၽားႁဖစ္တယ္။ လိမ္ထားတဲ့အလိမ္တစ္လိမ္မေပၚေအာင္ ေနာက္ထပ္လိမ္ေနရၪီးမယ့္ကိစၥေတြရွိေနတတ္ပါတယ္။

(၁) လံု႔လထုတ္ႄကိဳးႄကိဳးစားစားေဆာင္ရြက္ရပါမယ္။

တျခားကိစၥတခုေၾကာင့္ ေသသြားသလို ဖန္တီးေပးခဲ့ရပါတယ္။ အသတ္ခံလိုက္ရတဲ့

Long-term isolation from the international environment, over-a-decade-long sanctions, lack of information/data and highlights of some media have driven many people to see only the single story about Myanmar/Burma. The danger of the single story is that it makes stereotypes. And the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but they are incomplete and they make one story become the only story. In order to avoid the single story, it is necessary to see things from different perspectives (not necessarily seeing through rose-colored spectacles).
This presentation is one of the kinds that provide information from a different aspect that is usually overlooked due to the lack of primary data/information. It is a product of extensive researches and surveys conducted at various places/borders within Myanmar/Burma during 2008~09. The dynamism of cross-border activities and people, informal mobility of goods and persons that can never be effectively controlled in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, huge difference in social perception on illegal Vs illicit activities, intermingling and overlapping of various legal and illegal flows; all together inspired cross-border studies and implications of existing economic sanctions on them in Myanmar/Burma leading to this presentation. It provides empirical evidences both from positive and negative aspects.
Winston Set Aung is a Founder and the Director of Research of the Asia Development Research Institute and also a Founder and Executive Director of the Asia Language and Business Academy in Myanmar/Burma. He also serves as a Faculty Member of the MBA Programme of Yangon Institute of Economics. He has been involved in many international/regional research projects in cooperation with various international/regional academic and research institutes. He has written numerous research papers on cross-border trade, migration and human smuggling, transboundary natural resource connections, informal economy, etc. During fall 2009, Mr. Set Aung is a guest researcher at ISDP. His stay is funded with a grant awarded by the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT).

Burma claims it will release Aung San Suu Kyi

Burma's opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, may soon be released so she can play a role in next year's election, a senior Burmese diplomat has said.

"There is a plan to release her soon ... so she can organise her party," Min Lwin, a director-general in the foreign ministry, to ld the Associated Press. He gave no details and it was unclear whether Aung San Suu Kyi would be allowed to campaign or stand for election.

Despite the conciliatory remarks, the country's constitution includes provisions that bar her from holding office and ensure the primacy of the government in the military.

The Nobel peace prize winner has spent 14 of the last 20 years under house arrest. In August a court sentenced her to an additional 18 months after an American, John Yettaw, swam across a lake to her villa in Rangoon and stayed overnight.

Burma's junta in the the past has raised expectations of Aung San Suu Kyi's imminent release only to dash the hopes of her supporters at home and abroad.

Pro-democracy campaigners cautioned against reading too much into the latest hints on Suu Kyi's release. "They've been saying these sorts of things for a long time but they have never delivered on them," said Anna Roberts, the director of the Burma Campaign UK. "The regime's main concern is get economic sanctions lifted and get approval for the sham elections next year."

Tantalising hints of a possible release for the political prisoner came as Min Lwin was in Manila for a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and the US.

In a break with George Bush's policy of isolating the Burmese regime, Barack Obama has decided on a policy of engagment with the junta. Last week the US assistant secretary of state for east Asia, Kurt Campbell, and his deputy, Scott Marciel, became the most senior American officials to visit Burma since 1995, when Madeleine Albright went as Bill Clinton's ambassador to the UN.

Campbell and Marciel held exploratory talks with senior figures in the junta, including the prime minister, Thein Sein, but not Than Shwe, the general who has ruled the country for the last 17 years. They also met Aung San Suu Kyi.

Obama will meet Asean leaders this weekend during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Singapore, possibly bringing him into rare contact with Thein Sein. The last US president to meet a Burmese leader was Lyndon Johnson, who held talks with prime minister Ne Win in 1966.

Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy won Burma's last elections, in 1990, by a landslide but was blocked from power after the junta in place since a 1962 coup refused to recognise the result. Outside observers fear next year's election will be a sham to provide the veneer of credibility the regime has been looking for since 1990.

“ေတာင္ငူၿမိဳ႕ေပၚမွာ ကန္လမ္းက သူေဌးေတြက ပုိက္ဆံေပးေတာ့ လွ်ပ္စစ္ဌာနက ေန႔တုိင္း မီးလင္းေအာင္ လုပ္ေပးတယ္။ ပုိက္ဆံမေပးတဲ့ လမ္းေတြက်ေတာ့ မီးျဖတ္ထားတယ္။ မီးလုိခ်င္လုိ႔ ပုိက္ဆံအကုန္ခံၿပီး မီးလုိင္းေတြ ဆြဲထားရတယ္” ဟု ေျပာသည္။

ယင္းကဲ့သို႔ မီးလိုင္းတစ္လိုင္းစာအတြက္ တလလွ်င္ က်ပ္ေငြ ၅၀,၀၀ ေပးရေသာ္လည္း မီး ပံုမွန္လာျခင္းမရွိေၾကာင္း အဆိုပါၿမိဳ႕ခံက ဆက္ေျပာသည္။

Political Prisoner Ma Ni Mo Hlaing in critical condition
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) has learned that Ma Ni Mo Hlaing, who is currently being held in Thayet prison, is suffering from typhoid fever. She began demonstrating symptoms of fever on October 6, 2009, and her condition has steadily deteriorated since.
Due to the severity of her condition, Thayet prison officers have alerted her family by telegraph, and her mother was able to visit her in prison on October 27.
Prison officials have also authorized a blood test, but refused to share its results with the family. Ma Ni Mo Hlaing was administered gastric tablets and typhoid injections by the prison’s medical authorities, but her situation has not improved, prompting the prison’s resident doctor to qualify her condition as very serious. Her family also has a history of suffering from meningitis, and this has caused additional concern for her health. It is known that typhoid fever can be fatal when appropriate medical treatment is not provided.
Ma Ni Mo Hlaing was sentenced to consecutive three and two year sentences in 23 March 2009. She is a member of the National League for Democracy, Burma’s main opposition party which won a landslide election in 1990, but was never allowed by the military junta to govern. Also she was actively involved as leading role in “Saffron Revolution” on September 2007 and fundraising for independent Cyclone Nargis relief efforts with her friends.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners can confirm that there are at least 128 political prisoners in bad health held in prisons across Burma.

It would appear that the only beneficiary to all these meetings in Burma will be the caterers. With Daw Aung San Suu Kyi still under house arrest, political prisoners continue to be tortured and increased secret arrests of monks and opposition go unreported. Not much has changed in fact things only got worse according to insiders. On the bright side Than Shwe succeeded in buying critically needed time and fostered pseudo legitimacy for his bogus 2010 Election and regime. The shine of US diplomacy has lost its luster in the public’s eye as another round of Gambari’esk meetings fill news feeds with more false hope. Burma and her patriots remain in bondage. The fact *Kurt Campbell and Scot Marciel will hopefully visit Daw Aung Suu Kyi and opposition leaders separate from the junta delegates nullifies the purpose of the meeting in the first place.
U.S. politicians were sweet talking mass murderers while rescuing John “The Fraud” Yettaw, the man who torpedoed Suu Kyi’s legitimate bid for freedom. There is much speculation about the junta’s true role in this caper. There are eye witnesses to suggest much of the Olympic swimming escapade was fabricated but that’s another story. In the meantime the onslaught continues. The **Free Burma Rangers have reported scores (1,500) of Internally Displaced People (IDP) fleeing into the jungles living only on ancient skills in the latest round of eugenics. Nursing wounds sustained in the numerous attacks, these helpless people have been forced to scavenge in the jungle for sustenance and shelter while keeping vigil for junta death squads. The jungles are peppered with anti personnel mines and field amputations are common place for Free Burma Ranger Surgical Teams. But let’s forget that part and pretend the junta is a legitimate entity in the grad scheme of things. We might as well forgive Hitler’s holocaust and the millions of innocent people who also perished under the watchful of the world’s greatest nations.
The world media has been artificially mum about the continued onslaught of the Karen and other ethnic groups. Feel good political hog wash has filled the air waves with distortions and blatant lies. First hand information from the Free Burma Rangers painted a completely different picture gleaned from the pallet of human suffering. To be a journalist in Burma is to type with the keyboard in front of you and a gun barrel pressed to the back of your head. There are other courageous journalists and news groups though. They share many of the same risks as the Rangers. Only they don’t perform field surgeries with night vision gear behind enemy lines.
With an arsenal of advanced and chemical weaponry, (provided by China, India and North Korea), men of Burmese Army Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 599, Infantry Battalion (IB) 73 and IB 39 have intensified ethnic cleansing operations. Between October 9-10 mortars rained down in the Nwa Lay Ko, Giblayta and Saw Poe Ta regions as Burmese troops shot their way into the lives of villagers. As we fawned over well intended yet futile misguided engagements death reigned as villagers cried out to an ambivalent world. The bottom line is this, without Aung San Suu Kyi and her delegation at the table with all players, including Than Shwe, there is no legitimacy to the dialogue. The junta does not reflect the will of the Burmese people, not by a long shot. If the world honored the will of the people back in 1990 Than Shwe would have been hanging out in Paris with his wife and a couple retired generals. But alas, it would appear the free world is just as full of green house gasses as the mindless 2008 Constitution, the cornerstone of the 2010 Election.
Than Shwe has murdered his way into Burmese politics violating every tenet of human rights imaginable in his reign. The free world has done nothing but offer sanctions to “most” industries while coddling others who skirt the international mandate. Filled with feel good speeches and broken promises after the election of 1990 the Burmese people take words from the west with a grain of salt but still keep just an inkling of hope. Apparently so does the junta and cohort Kim Jong II of North Korea who already cashed in on the Gullible’s Travel’s of neophyte western diplomacy.
Than Shwe’s astrologers are struggling to plot a new course with the least amount of tribulation but it’s impossible and they know it. The excommunication of Than Shwe and his military has placed him in a new light. Actually this exposed him for what he actually is and it is not Buddhist. Than Shwe is a traitor to his nation and has betrayed the core tenets of his mission as a general, to protect and defend the people of Burma. Religion was only a tool of manipulation and his presents in pagodas have been met with deadly results. Following the path of evil will glean rewards that will last an eternity. By perverting a sacred dogma such as Buddhism he has cursed himself as well as all who chose to follow him into the caldron of retribution.
Than Shwe knows he lied to everybody around him, even his wife. He seeks out soothsayers so they can help him find his path as well as buy him time in their sacred incantations and spells. It is his astrologers who are actually at the reigns of power in Burma and Than Shwe is only their disciple. They know Uncle Than’s days are numbered and are also poised with anticipation for his demise. It is almost laughable that Than Shwe does not have magic of his own and has to borrow it. He draws magic from other dubious sources as well but none of his magic is actually his. And there is no way he can reinvent and mold any religion to justify what he has done to the people of Burma. One thing is for certain; Than Shwe will not be alone and he will share his misery with his staunches supporters whence they cross onto the other side. And they better bring their asbestos toe shoes.

His watercolours are inspired by his memories of Burma and the faces of family and friends. Through his work he hopes to share with people both the beauty and hardships of life in Burma.
John has generously donated these works to The Build Project. Proceeds from the reception and from art sales will go directly to our work towards education and support of young people from Burma living in Thailand.
